END OF THE YEAR BARBEQUE & FIELD DAY CELEBRATION! Come and have TONS OF FUN in the SUN with Interactors from ALL OVER the DISTRICT!

TICKET: $5 per person ; Purchase your tickets by Tuesday
May 13 from your Interact Club Officer or Area Representative!

FOOD: Hot Dogs, Sides, Chips, Snacks, Soda/Water

FUN: It’s going to be an Interact Olympics of “AREA vs. AREA vs. DC” Competitions. We’ll have different games/activities like water balloon tosses, egg tosses, six-legged races, tug-o-war, relays, etc. etc. etc. (You know all that Field Day stuff from elementary school, plus whatever other suggestions/ ideas we get.) There will also be basketball courts and tennis courts (so everyone bring your TENNIS RACQUET’S! ;) We’ll incorporate that somehow. There’s also a softball field, so we can plan a big softball game….anyways, For each competition/ game we’ll award the winning area points…by the end of the Olympics, we’ll award the winning team something–let’s just call it a “surprise” for now.

SPRING IN GUADALUPE GARDENS FESTIVAL
Saturday, April 26, 2007
The event will take place in the area of Guadalupe Gardens between Coleman Avenue and Taylor Street. Four different volunteer shifts are available from 7:00am- 5:00pm. The first and last shifts are for set up and tear down. Groups are welcome for these shifts. Tasks for the 9:30-3:00 shifts may include: helping with children activities, food booth sales, barbecuing, raffle ticket sales, compost giveaway, answering phones, plant/merchandise sales, surveys, guarding trail entrances and other tasks as needed.

Shift 1 Set-Up 7:00am - 10:00am
Shift 2 Event* 9:30am - 12:30pm
Shift 3 Event* 12:00am - 3:00pm
Shift 4 Tear Down 2:45pm - 5:00pm

Invasive Plant Removal
Address: Near Alum Rock Park

Description

Invasive Plant Removal from Open Space Lands Furtado (above Alum Rock) Join the Open Space Authority in an ongoing effort to remove harmful invasive plants from open space lands. Volunteer work will take place above Alum Rock Park. We will be removing the invasive plant Poison Hemlock. This pesky plant crowds out native plants which are beneficial to our natural eco-system and wildlife. Call or email for more information and to sign-up.

Skills
To volunteer you should enjoy working outside, short hikes, and getting dirty! We will provide the tools, training and lunch. Workday will be from 9am to 3 pm, and includes a lunch break and time to enjoy the gorgeous surroundings.

 

Shifts
First shift - 9am - 12pm
Second shift - 12pm - 3pm

ALL proceeds will be donated to International Action for Children, the 2008 Interact District 5170 International Project. This project will help educate and improve the lives of children in Ghana, Panama, and Tibet. Our efforts will help:

Project 1: Build a roof, buy school supplies, and furnish a school in Ghana, Africa.

Project 2: Refurbish a daycare center, and provide tools and techniques to become self-sustaining farmers in Panama.

Project 3: Eradicate Tuberculosis and help the malnourished children in the Tibetan villages.

Club fees are due February 26. You can pay the $5 to us this Friday, February 15 at lunch in room T5 (Mr. Murphy.)
